BledCom symposium

- annually since 1994

BledCom symposium is a traditional gathering of scholars and practitioners from all over the world who come together to explore and discuss on various themes and research in the field of public relations and related disciplines. It traditionally takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Bled on the first weekend in July. The character of BledCom symposia is a relaxing, pleasant and above all informal.

Call for papers - BledCom 2009: Culture and Public Relations

Lake Bled, Slovenia, 3-4 July 2009

Culture is fundamental to every human activity, especially communication, the indispensable tool of public relations practitioners. However, research on the relation of culture has been sparse and mostly conducted over the past decade and a half. Therefore, the current body of knowledge certainly does not do justice to the sensitive relationship culture and public relations. Globalization increasingly causes public relations practitioners to operate in unusual cultural environments and consequently brings the necessity to thoroughly explore this topic sooner than later.

We see at least three broad areas of analysing this topical subject:

  • Culture is an antecedent and an environment for public relations practice
  • Public relations itself can be viewed as a culture
  • Impact of public relations on societal and corporate culture

We do hope for diversity in perspectives and a lively debate on the topic. We intend to develop a book based on excellent papers presented at the conference.

15th BledCom characterised by trends and lively discussions

Nearly 150 experts in the field of public relations and marketing from all over the world gathered at this year’s BledCom to discuss the relationship between PR and marketing, as well as communication trends. The discussion was opened by one of the leading world futurists, Anne Lise Kjaer, who revealed some of the key trends with important implications for communication. BledCom reached its summit with a heated discussion on marketing and PR and their mutual (non-)recognition. Interesting interpretations were generated by comparative research on the effectiveness of advertisements and articles.
