James E. Grunig

He is the co-author of legendary PR books: Managing Public Relation (co-author: Todd Hunt), Public Relations Techniques (co-author: Todd Hunt), Manager's Guide to Excellence in Public Relations and Communication Management (co-authors: David Dozier, Larissa Grunig), and Excellent Public Relations and Effective Organizations: A Study of Communication Management in Three Countries (co-authors: David Dozier, Larissa Grunig). Grunig was named the first winner of the Pathfinder Award for excellence in academic research on public relations by the Institute for Public Relations Research and Education in 1984. In 2005, he received the highest award of the Institute for Public Relations, the Alexander Hamilton Medal for Lifetime Contributions to Professional Public Relations.
