BledCom 2010 joined over 100 participants in discussion on government communication
BledCom 2010, taking place at Bled on July 2 and July 3 2010, addressed Government Communication: the communication & public relations activities of government and government agencies – at international, national, regional, and local levels. The 17th international public relations research symposium was opened by welcome speech of the president of the Republic of Slovenia dr. Danilo Türk, the honorary sponsor of BledCom 2010. Over 100 participant from all over the world discussed government communication. This year’s keynote speakers were experts with long-term experience in public affairs or public diplomacy: Under-Secretary for Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark Klavs A. Holm, Anne M. Chermak, Dillen Associates LLC, San Francisco, Director of Communication, City of Stockholm Executive Office Hanna Brogren, and Nada Serajnik Sraka, Matjaž Kek & Branko Vidrih, Government communication office, Slovenia.
BledCom 2010 saw a record number of authors handing in their papers discussing the main topic. 28 were chosen by the blind peer review for presentation at the symposium and also for competition for two BledCom Special Prize. Institute for Public Relations awarded the Institute for Public Relations Special prize for the second year. The winners of the award are Bo Laursen and Chiara Valentini from University of Aarhus, Denmark for their paper Communicating the EU to the media: the delicate role of press officers at the EU council of ministers. For the first time at BledCom 2010, the main organizer of the sympisum Pristop awarded the best paper with Pristop BledCom Special Prize, which went to Donald Alexander, Peter Simmons and David Cameron from Charles Sturt University, Australia for their paper Future-proofing a strategic communication team for a major Australian government entity.
